This canvas is a special edition for the exhibition at Station West Amsterdam. This exhibition is part of a three-part series of exhibitions around drawings that illustrator Johan Volkerijk made for the Volkskrant in the late 1950s. The drawings give an era of ideas, wishes and plans that existed in Amsterdam at the time. Some of it is still current, some turned 180 degrees and finally plans have been realized that have become part of today’s Amsterdam. This specific artwork pictures the crossing of the Haarlemmerdijk and the Korte Prinsengracht in Amsterdam (buildings on the left don’t exist anymore, now it’s a Dutch cheese store, Kaasland).
